My Chakra painting series is inspired by many mentors; artists, mystics and poets.
I used our most basic shapes, a square and a circle. To make it deeper and painterly, I glazed and added
textures. To make it more connected to the earth, I added clay to the bottom quarter of every canvas.
The whole time I was creating I listened to Carolyn Myss's recorded lectures. I painted some of her words
into the art works. These pieces became the chakra series. The phrase, "Keep your ego out of your creation," is painted
at the top chakra 2, and "Will you accept the vision?" is painted towards the bottom of chakra 7.
WHAT ARE CHAKRAS?
You can come to understand how the chakras develop as we grow, from
birth through adulthood, by examining our own development. You can then see how the chakras are involved with all of
our own creations, whether it is simply a hair cut or a major shift of life - job, relationship, career.
The growth of our chakras is emualted from the base Root chakra through the Crown chakra.
Starting something new, creating something new, begins at the top, the crown
chakra. If you accept this vision, the idea drops to the next charka, the visionary energy (6th chakra) and
if you can see it, it drops further to your judgement and speech energy level, the 5th
chakra, then next to your heart chakra (4th chakra).
If you don't love it, it stalls out here and does not manifest. If you do love it, then the the top four chakras are
in line and it can drop down to the physical energy levels: work, money &
creativity and finally to the ground and manifest in the world.

I believe you are born with the Root chakra fully engaged. It's your family and symbolically your baptism.
As your second chakra develops, you develop respect for friends and become creative and sexually
animated. You also start enjoying money... before your work ethic comes into force in the third chakra.
It is your third chakra that responates with with your sense of self respect. This usually happens
when by the time you leave high school. You no longer need to depend upon your friends for a way of being. You can look inside
for your own idea of how to be and who you are.

The fourth chakra, repeats what
we see in physical life; it is divine love and is the conduit between the physical, time and distance based chakras to
the non-physical, time-independent chakras. In other words, you cannot grow spiritually without going through love.
The fifth chakra is will power, grace and judgment, your
voice. Think of how people grasp at their necks when they are shocked by a behavior. The extreme judgmental feeling of, “Why I never!” goes hand-in-hand with clutching your throat, or the tennis
ball lodged in your throat when it is more personal – all your fifth chakra center. This judgment is counter-balanced
by Grace. Your willpower is centered here too. Think of the devil and the angel
on your shoulders – throat level. This is all the same.

The sixth chakra is your intelligence, your vision. As you continue developing, you come to a place
where you can envision a new idea, becoming a creative and a visionary. This comes with balance and grounding through all
the preceding chakras. You no longer only parrot party lines and the family mantra. You have your own ideas steeped in self-respect
and judgment. You seek peers who are in line with your own vision.
The seventh chakra is the Crown chakra, the connection to the light of Universal energy; pure being;
the I am I. This Chakra, when in alignment, makes you feel at one with the universe. You bring your exterior and interior
lives into harmony. You are totally aware of your true self. This is the energy center of Divine purpose and destiny.
